Introducing The Long

Every now and then a site comes along that aims to change the face of videogames as we know them. That aims, through sheer dint of will and spirit, not to mention lengthy, 5,000-word dissertations drawing on the works of Kojima, Miyamoto, Bissell, Bogost, Proust, Hocking, Freud, Shakespeare, Newell, and yes, sometimes even Jesus Himself, to redefine for the gaming community and the World At Large, what videogames are all about.

This is not that site.

Well, not exactly.

True, we’re not videogame scholars. In fact, as far as I know, very few of us have ever written a dissertation. What we are are a group of people who profoundly love the medium of videogames. Consider this a cordial invitation to our all-loving orgiastic digital love-fest. We call it The Long of It.

Here is where you will find all our longform pieces inspired by games we love, games we hate, and games we for some reason just can’t get out of our heads. Every single one of us (yourself included, Dear Reader) have one or more pivotal moments in our videogaming lives that has been formative, epiphanic, profound, or just really damn cool. These are the moments that make us love playing games, and we want to share these moments with you.

The pieces you’ll find in The Long won’t be snappy or bite sized or, in some cases overly relevant in terms of Current Events. That’s ok – we have The Short for that. But we feel that videogames have given us so much to think about over the years, it just seems fair – Right, even – that we take the time necessary to share some of our most poignant thoughts on gaming with you. We hope you take the time to share in these thoughts with us.

Thanks for stopping in, Dear Reader. We hope this is the start of a beautiful friendship.
