10 Signs You’re Being an Overly Exclusionary Jackass To Compensate For Your Insecurity

Seriously. Fuck this shit.

Shame on you Complex. Shame on you.

Zoe Quinn has eloquently composed a rebuttal.

    Heyo!
I’m the guy who wrote this article.
Your response is exactly the sort I was hoping for. I’m proud of you.

I can tell you didn’t make it to the last slide, where it’s revealed the whole thing is a sick parody, and that’s even better. I’m really happy to see people absolutely loathe this sort of judging and aren’t even willing to read the end of the article before throwing it to the fires.

Rock on dude, you’re doing it right!

“Other seemingly-folksy yet really passive aggressive salutation!”

I’m the guy who wrote THIS article. I DID read to the last slide, mainly because the whole thing was like a train wreck – I couldn’t look away.

I mean to think that there are people out there who not only THINK these sorts of things, but then proceed to put them on the INTERNET – that’s insane, right? I’m so glad to see people like you are around to stand as stalwart bastions of satire and remind us in a single succinct sentence that the last 10 pages of hateful opinions we’ve had forced down our throats was all a joke.

I mean, everything preceding that final slide was so atrocious you had me going for a second – I really firmly believed that you’re just an exclusionary asshole who likes to lord authority over others. You can imagine then, my relief, when I read the final sentence. It felt like such a load was taken off of my shoulders to find out that you WEREN’T a total skeezebag after all.

Of coruse, we can’t all be as enlightned as you or I. I was directed to this article by a friend who found it actually quite amusing. Finally – FINALLY – someone understood the trials he faced on a daily basis with people CLAIMING to like videogames erroneously. I’m really happy that you’ve somehow managed to shine as a beacon of hope for all these hopelessly misguided people all in the name of Satire.

I wonder if he made it to the last slide too?

If it’s really a parody about people who wear the trappings of games-loving but aren’t actually “authentic” games-lovers (something which I don’t think ANYONE can purport to be the be-all end-all judge of) then why even start the post off talking about girls?

“Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts,
in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to
ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society
      itself, into improvement”

I’m not sure which parts of this idea are actually present. I don’t think any of them really are. I know a dude who’s really racist, and ends all of his racist tirades with “But I’m not actually a racist.” But…dude, you just went through a litany of horrible things about all these races, and now you’re limply selling that it’s not true.

Same thing here. Women can’t be gamers, fake gamers are the cancer ruining gaming, but oh, actually they’re okay. Don’t worry about them. It’s not even a parody. A parody implies we’re in on the joke from the beginning. And we’re not. We’re definitely not. Saying vile shit and then saying, “I’m joking, I’m joking” is not, and will never be, satire or parody.

The rebuttal–finely done, btw–is definitely parody. You’re aware from the start that it’s joking (nobody says guuuurrrrrlll gaaaaeeeemmmeerrr) and the punchline actually exists without building up a horrible stereotype and saying, nope, not true.

Wasn’t the linked article being sarcastic? The last few lines in point one of it reveal it for the satire and mocking tone that it actually was.
